Beware of Asbestos Products

I have been reading all about asbestos-caused cancers all over the internet and the chemical engineer in me just cannot contain my curiosity so that I had to read more about it. While asbestos sale and import is banned in Europe, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, it is alarming to note that in the Philippines and in Asia, this product is widely used particularly in the construction industry. Did you know that in Manila alone, 4000 metric tons of asbestos are imported annually for use in fiber cement boards, packaging materials, friction and mechanical parts? An alarming great number indeed!

If you don't know yet the dangers of asbestos, then it is high time that you become aware. Exposure to asbestos can cause severe lung & respiratory diseases. Mesothelioma in the form of pleural mesothelioma, asbestosis and lung cancer are just some of the common diseases resulting from exposure to asbestos. And the tragic thing about this disease is that it can only be diagnosed once it reaches Stage III or Stage IV. Much research still needs to be done with regards to its early diagnosis and what doctors can do now to detect it at an early stage is to know if the patient had any prior asbestos exposure and a full medical history.

So beware with the materials that you use and are exposed to because the next victim could be YOU!
