Four Tips for Your Next Construction Project

Construction projects aren't easy. However, there are steps that you can take to keep them from being overly difficult or time-consuming. If you're interested in smoothing out the construction process, here are just a few tips for your next building or rigging process.

1. Have a Budget
This might be easier said than done, especially if you're working on a flexible project with a lot of fluctuations in materials and labor times. But it's worth making the effort. Even if you only have vague price ranges instead of hard-and-fast dollar limits, it's always a good idea to keep your expenses confined to a budget.

2. Keep to a Schedule
In the same vein as the above, you'll want to try your hardest to keep to a schedule. You might need to delay things as new challenges and complications appear, but if you have some kind of deadline, you're more likely to keep the entire project from going off-track. It's better to exceed a deadline than never have a deadline at all.

3. Consider the Land
If you're digging, dredging or ditching, you'll need to pay close attention to the land. This might mean monitoring soil erosion or dealing with overflow from local pipes; it might mean exchanging your sand bags for trench breakers. At the end of the day, however, you shouldn't ignore the needs of the land.

4. Stay Safe
This is another area where it's easier to talk the talk rather than walk the walk, but you'll want to put as much effort as possible into keeping things safe on your construction project. Make sure that all of your employees have the right personal protection gear; make sure that everyone has read the handbook for dangerous tasks and activities. Stay safe on the job.

These are just a few tips for a smoother construction project. Whether you're building a new home or installing a series of machines for a commercial oil rig, you'll want to pay attention to what you're doing. You can save a lot of time, money and energy by being careful.

All is Calm, All is Bright

I have always loved the Christmas song "Silent Night" for it speaks of that one cold night when the little child who will save us all was born in a humbly and lowly manger. Whenever we get the chance to play for the Christmas mass, we always include this song in our repertoire.

It has the simplest and most beautiful message to it: that things need not be extravagant or expensive to make others happy when giving gifts. For the most precious gift comes wrapped in swaddling clothes. It goes the same with gift giving. True, while we always want to give the best gift, in the end what matters most is the love that comes with the gift. While material things give us temporary happiness, receiving and giving love and true friendship, a sincere smile and warm embrace, and yes, forgiving others and ourselves is still the best gift we can offer one another.

For God so loved the world that He gave us His only son so that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life... so the bible says.

So before the year ends, let us allow love to reign in our hearts. And all else shall follow.

May we all continue to enjoy the holidays and greet the new year full of faith, hope and love in our hearts.

So keep calm and give LOVE.

It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Christmas - indeed it is the most wonderful time of the year.

Looking back at everything that has transpired this year, I can say that it has been a very meaningful and grace-filled year -- and that is more than enough reason to celebrate Christmas with a grateful heart. Despite the many shortcomings, challenges and misunderstandings that came along the way, my heart is still grateful that we were able to still find ourselves together and stronger in our convictions and faith.

Our hearts are also grateful for the friends whom we travelled with this year. The adventures, shared experiences, and that sense of being in a family will always be treasured in our hearts -these will forever be beautiful memories in the many years to come. And my heart is filled with joy and gladness because we are so blessed to be surrounded with good friends.

For our family back in our home country, we also wish them well. There may be tough times but with His faithfulness, we are able to surpass the hurdles. Indeed God makes things possible - He always makes a way for us despite of and inspite of.

So I hope that we continue to have a grateful heart, and to give love to others who need it.

Celebrate the most wonderful time of the year with your loved ones, family and friends.

May you have a blessed Christmas.

Getting Windows Spotless

Cleaning windows can be a lucrative business if you know how to perform the job the right way. When you're cleaning windows for homeowners or businesses, you need to use the proper supplies that won't leave streaks behind and that will get the glass as clean as possible. Before you begin cleaning for the customer, you need to make sure your equipment is clean so that it won't leave dirt and debris on the windows. You also need to make sure you have all of the solutions that will be sprayed on the windows before you begin the job.

A window cleaning Hinsdale IL company will usually have a few different types of cleaning solutions to use on windows. You should have one that is specifically used on glass and one that can be used to clean window frames along with the metal that is often around windows if you're cleaning storm windows. A squeegee is a good tool to have so that you can remove as much water as possible from the glass after it's been cleaned. Microfiber cloths are good to have on hand as well as these usually trap lint and dirt. Avoid using products that will scratch the surface of the glass, such as abrasive chemicals and cloths. Avoid using paper towels to clean windows because they can be harsh on the surface.

The first thing that you want to do is prepare the solution that you'll use for cleaning in a bucket. Dip the cloth or towel that you're going to use in the solution. Spray bottles might be convenient, but they often leave spots and streaks on the windows. Wring the water out of the cloth before cleaning the glass. Don't let the cloth drip because this can leave streaks behind as well. Start cleaning the windows from the top so that all of the dirt reaches the bottom of the glass instead of moving the dirt from the bottom to the top and covering it once again. Rinse completely with clean water before using a squeegee to remove excess water.

Add A Colonial Touch To Your Dining Room

A colonial decorating style is perfectly suited to any dining room. It adds a formal elegance to the space while reflecting on historically beautiful features. Creating this look inside of your own home is easy when you use the following tips.

Architectural Features with Colonial Touches
You will instantly add a colonial feel to your dining room by adding architectural details such as dentil molding around the ceiling, wainscoting, and solid wood doors. Use hardware in pewter or brushed nickel finishes. Paint the main portion of the walls in a traditionally colonial color like bright green, wedge wood blue, or a dark cranberry. Finish it off with random width flooring in dark wood tones.

Layer Fabrics for a Vintage Look
During the colonial days, people relied on fabrics to keep rooms warm. Hang heavy velvet valances and drapes over lace curtains on the windows. A vintage tablecloth with a lace one over top of it will coordinate nicely. Area rugs should be used freely. Place a large one under the table with smaller ones in the doorways. A runner is the perfect accent in front of the buffet. Adorn any extra seating with tapestry or needlepoint throw pillows.

Choose Traditional Pieces of Furniture
A true colonial dining room will feature a long formal wood table and chairs as its focal point. Pieces should be heavy and ornate with plenty of detail. A matching hutch is the ideal place to showcase vintage dinnerware, pewter objects, and pottery. If there is room, be sure to include a matching buffet. Use this area to display home decor items when not serving food on it.

Once you add architectural details to the room, layered fabrics, and traditional pieces of furniture, you will have an elegant, colonial-style dining room that is perfect for entertaining friends and family. It will have just enough elegance to keep the room formal while remaining casual enough that everyone will feel comfortable spending time in this space.

Simbang Gabi in Stuttgart

Christmas is just around the corner. Five more days to be exact. In my home country the Philippines, Christmas has already begun when we entered the "-ber" months. But being away from our home country, we try to make things feel more at home by practicing our Filipino traditions. One thing that we always look forward to is the Simbang Gabi - the nine day mass novena in preparation for the birth of Jesus. In this nine day evening masses, we endure the cold as we warmly await His birth.

St. Maria Church at night...
We started our Simbang Gabi this year last Saturday, December 15. As accustomed, we celebrated the masses at St. Maria Church, an old church located at the Gerberviertel. We are now on our 6th evening. Three more nights and it will be Christmas Day.

The Parol (Filipino Christmas lantern) adds to the Christmas spirit in the church.
The eucharistic celebrations are prepared and organized by the different Catholic groups comprising the Philippinische Muttersprachliche Gemeinschaft, making sure that on each evening, there is music, smooth flow and warm Filipino finger foods and kakanin.

I pray that despite the cold, we will all remain healthy and keep coming with our warm spirits so that our "pakiusap" to Him after completing the nine evening masses will be answered and granted.

How to Select the Perfect Pet Bed For Your Dog

Did you get a dog not that long ago? You may have made the decision with the family to get a pet for everyone to love and spend time with. Now that you are the owner of an adorable and loving animal, you should make sure that you have the perfect bed for your pet to sleep in when it is going to sleep for the night and when it is taking naps during the day, especially if you are not too fond of having the animal sleeping directly on the floor. There are a few different steps you can take to make sure that you are choosing the perfect bed for your pup.

Make Sure It Is the Right Size
Even if you are planning to let your dog sleep in your bed with you because it has been deemed safe, you may still want to make sure that your pet is sleeping in its own small bed on top of your mattress or sheets to avoid getting too much hair from the animal all over your clean sheets and blankets. The first thing you need to look for when selecting the right bed for the animal is something that is spacious enough. The exact size of the product you are going to need will depend on the breed of the animal and how big you are expecting it to grow.

If you have adopted or purchased a dog that is known for staying small throughout its lifetime, such as a chihuahua, you are not going to need the largest option available. However, if your dog weighs nearly a hundred pounds and is expected to grow even larger, you are going to need to make sure you are finding something that is going to accommodate its size. You can start to shop for dog beds online with VPD to check out the many options that are offered, including options for both smaller animals and larger animals.

Check Out the Materials That Are Used
Always pay attention to the types of materials and fabrics that are used to make the different beds that are available for your pet. The reason it is important to do this research is because you want your dog to like sleeping on the bed and the only way to make sure the animal enjoys sleeping on it is to make sure it is as comfortable as possible. Fake fur is often used on top of additional padding to make a pet bed feel more comfortable for the animal. The fur provides extra warmth during those times when it may feel chilly inside the house because it is so cold outdoors.

While getting something with fake fur may be ideal if your pet gets cold quite easily, you may not necessarily need something with fur if it is often warm in your home. Instead, you may prefer something that is made from materials that are more lightweight and known for their ability to keep animals cool on hotter days.

Know What You Will Need to Do to Keep It Clean
Aside from making sure the product is spacious and comfortable enough for your dog, you should find out how to keep it clean. Most of the options are easy to keep clean because they can get thrown into the washing machine with some detergent. However, other options may not be as easy to clean and may require more work, so you need to know how much effort you are going to need to put into keeping the mattress clean for your dog.

If you want to get a nice pet bed for your new dog, you need to make sure it is large enough for the animal, made with comfortable materials, and easy to keep clean. There are tons of large and spacious options available in plenty of colors and designs.

Suki and Her Injured Paw

So we were away for about four weeks for our summer vacation. Because we cannot take our Suki with us to the Philippines, one would wonder what she has been up to during this time. So where is Suki? We left her in the care of Pino at his dog hotel in Ludwigsburg.

A week before our flight back to Germany, we didn't receive any update from Pino. I was already a bit worried because it was very unlike of Pino to not give us any updates since he would send us photos and videos via WhatsApp whenever we ask about how our Suki is doing. There was a good reason for it: our Suki hurt herself on one of their walks. Knowing our Suki, she loves to be all over the place and loves to eat and swallow whatever she finds. She is like a vacuum cleaner so to speak. So anyway, we fetched her and found her with a soft collar.

Then Pino explained to us what happened. He didn't want us to worry about Suki and ruin our vacation so he waited until we got back. Suki must have got a splinter on her right paw while they were out on one of their walks. Pino already suspected something was wrong with her when he saw her limping. He checked her paws and found nothing. When it suddenly became swollen, he brought her to the vet nearby. They placed a blistering ointment on the swollen area and placed a bandage on it. The next day, they checked it again and found foreign objects and the blister burst. They stitched the paw together, gave her antibiotics and put a soft collar so she will not chew the bandage away.

Suki in her soft collar, doing on her favorite past times:
sunbathing in our balkon. There is indeed no place like home.
The poor thing... But we are thankful that Pino took immediate action and got Suki treated before it became worse. I can say that we found a very good "day care" for our Suki. And she is happy too in the company of other dogs. It was like she was also having a vacation there.

But she was so delighted and happy to see us again too. It was like it didn't matter to her that we were away for a very long time. What matters is that we are back!

Three Tips for Taking a Road Trip with Friends

While you can always fly anywhere you want to go, you may find that you have even more fun when you take a road trip with your friends instead. Not only can you follow the open road and see where it takes you, but you have the chance to talk and be together the whole time. You just need to check out some tips for your trip.

Plan Your Route Ahead of Time
Before taking off on your road trip adventure, sit down as a group and decide exactly where you want to go. Now is the time to plan your route between different points and to make a list of all the attractions that you want to see. You might decide to check out some of the top Tombstone AZ attractions on a trip through the southwest, or you might head down to Florida and visit a few amusement parks. No matter where you decide to go, give yourself some free time along the way. You never know when you might find a new place that you want to visit.

Pack Snacks
When you take a road trip, you can stop anywhere you want, including at rest stops for bathroom breaks and restaurants to grab a bite to eat. To cut down on the time you spend off the road though, you may want to pack some snacks. You should look for nonperishable foods that you can store in the back seat or the trunk, including granola and candy bars and chips or pretzels. If you bring along a cooler, you can pack cold drinks and other foods too.

Bring Games
Though road trips are fun, you might get a little bored before you reach your destination, especially if you find yourself stuck in traffic. A good way to beat the boredom is with a few games. Many companies now make smaller travel games that you can play in the car. Before taking off with friends on a road trip, you should think about the games and snacks you want to bring and all the attractions you want to visit.

Bantayan Island

Autumn is slowly creeping in but before that, let me post this beautiful photo of the Virgin Island, a nearby island just a couple of hours away from Bantayan Island in the province of Cebu, Philippines.

Clear blue waters, white sand, hot sun - the perfect combination for a perfect summer vacation. It is a very beautiful place for snorkeling too - with lots of fish or just lazing about on one of the hammocks while sipping a tumbler of fresh mango juice. There is a viewing deck further on and cliff diving on the other side of the island for the more adventurous at heart.

Nothing really beats nature's beauty. It was a brief stay but the memories we made with family and friends will forever be treasured.

Why Montessori Education Works

There are a lot of great schools out there. Ask anyone what makes a great school, and you will likely get multiple answers. The reality is that the system and the teacher often are the determining factor in deciding this, which is why Montessori education has become so popular across America in recent years. Parents have become frustrated with schools that seem to be focused on the teacher and administration. Montessori schools, such as that found with sammamish private schools , are based on an entirely different model. These schools are rightfully centered on the child, and the results have been tremendous.

Early Childhood Education
For years, many experts believed that young children should just play and that formal education should not start until much later. That is flawed thinking, as children begin learning almost from day one. Remember back to you when you new born followed everything you did with their eyes. They were soaking everything in. Young children are like sponges. They can retain information, and have fun while doing it. Montessori education takes advantage of this by providing a child centered classroom that is focused on fun, educational activities. The children learn without even realizing that they are.

Leave Formal Education Out of It
There will be plenty of time later for formal education, filled with lectures and reports to do. Early childhood education should revolve around the child. Each individual student in the school is encouraged to learn at his or her own pace. The teacher works with each student to maximize and build upon their own unique gifts and talents. Children are free to express themselves during playtime and other organized activities. This is unlike a traditional classroom where children are expected to sit in neat rows and listen intently while their teacher talks. The teacher in a Montessori school is more like a guide, moving the children towards where they want to go at their own pace.

As you consider what to do for your child's education in these early years, consider a Montessori school. You and your child will likely be very pleased with the results.

Finding The Perfect Marble For Your Home

If you are remodeling your home and are looking for marble for your kitchen counter, you should first consider the many different types of marble that are available. You should then devise a plan in which you will search for this marble, and there are several different ways in which you can find the right marble for your home.

Talk To Other Homeowners
The first thing you can do is talk to homeowners who recently purchased marble for their kitchen. Find out where they purchased their marble, the overall price with installation, any trouble they may have had with it, and if they are happy with their new kitchen display.

Search For Private Companies
The next thing you can do is search for private companies that sell marble for kitchen counters. You can conduct this type of search online, but the company you select should have a history of providing fine marble to the entire area. The company should also have outstanding ratings and reviews, too. A great example of this type of company is EleMar, which is known for providing the finest marble countertops Portland offers. They have every type of marble that can be imagined, and they offer payment plans for every client, too. Additionally, this company provides full installation, and they keep in contact with all their customers on a regular basis in case something goes wrong with the marble.

Getting a marble countertop is a beautiful thing, but it is also a permanent thing that is not cheap at all. With that being said, you should try your hardest to get the best marble countertop you can find. It would also be good to weigh out all of your options before making a final decision.

The Islands Beckon

Summer - that time of the year when we finally get to unwind and have a long vacation.

This year was unlike any other as we got to explore the islands of our home country and saw it in a different light, enjoying the sun, sea and countryside with family and friends, breathing in and basking in its beauty. From one island to the next, it will always have its own charm and beauty but one thing remains - the Philippines is a beautiful country rich in natural resources.

Breathtaking sunrise in Pacifico, San Isidro, Siargao Philippines.
We went back to places we have been to and was surprised at how much globalization has changed the face of the island. There are crowded places teeming with tourists but there are also locations where one can enjoy the laidback pace of the island life. I hope that its natural beauty will not be compromised with commercialization otherwise it will be the end of it.

So be it for adventure, meeting new friends, enjoying extreme sports or just lazing about, there will always be a spot for anyone who will visit the islands of the Philippines.

With its 7,106 islands, there are still thousands more islands that we need to explore. And these we will definitely visit and explore in the next summers of our lives.

How to Choose the Right Divorce Attorney

Selecting an attorney to represent you on any legal matter is one of the most important decisions you can make. When it comes to divorce, who you choose is of particular importance given the massive pool of attorneys from which to choose. The needs differ with every case, so it might take a lot of time and research to find the right divorce attorney Hillsborough county.

Divorce can be hard for both sides and men in particular need to ensure their attorney keeps their best interests at the forefront of settlement negotiations. Here are a few things to consider when beginning your search.

Don't Assume Only Male Attorneys Provide the Best Representation
You should not depend on your attorney's gender impacting the outcome of your case. What is more important is finding an attorney who is competent, dependable and makes you feel comfortable that they will serve your best interests. Regardless of their gender, you want to know that you can trust their representation of what is best for you.

Hire an Attorney Specializing in Family Law
There are many different practice areas, but you want an attorney who focuses on divorce proceedings. Hiring someone who knows specific divorce laws in your area is crucial. Just like you would not want a veterinarian if you needed heart surgery, you should not want legal representation from an attorney that does not practice family law.

Find One Experienced with Your Interests
Although family law is a specialty, there are still parts that makes your interests different from another case. If you and your soon-to-be ex have children, you want an attorney who handles child support and custody issues.

Look for an Attorney with Good Negotiation Skills
You should want to reach a fair settlement without going to court. A good negotiator can help you avoid that fight. Fighting things out in a trial can become an expensive and lengthy process. However, an attorney with courtroom experience can help to settle disputed issues.

Go beyond just picking a name for selecting an attorney. Establish a sensitive relationship with one who is right for your case.

Benefits and Risks of Home Replacement Therapy

Hormone replacement therapy is a treatment that is specifically geared towards women who have already gone through menopause. With this type of treatment, the female hormones and estrogen that are no longer produced are replaced through regular medication. Women who experience hot flashes, vaginal dryness and bone loss are often prescribed a hormone replacement therapy course of treatment. While there are a wide range of benefits pertinent to hormone replacement therapy, there are some risks as well.

Systemic hormone therapy comes in the form of a cream, spray, pill, patch or gel. This type of hormone therapy helps the most with night sweats, hot flashes and the discomfort that comes from having vaginal dryness. Systemic therapy utilizes large doses of estrogen. An increase in estrogen can reduce the risk of heart disease, osteoporosis and colon cancer.

Low-dose vaginal estrogen products come in a cream, ring or tablet form. These products offer minimal absorption by the body, and they treat vaginal and urinary-related symptoms associated with menopause. These types of products also help with night sweats, mood swings and hot flashes. If you have not had your uterus removed, your doctor will likely prescribe a course of treatment that combines estrogen and progesterone. Estrogen alone can trigger growth in the uterine lining; this can lead to uterine cancer. Progesterone prevents this from happening.

Hormone replacement therapy for women does have some potential side effects. Many of the possible side effects become a greater issue if you have a family history of certain conditions. If you have a family history of heart disease, certain cancers, blood clots or stroke, you should work with your doctor to determine the best hormone replacement therapy option. Osteoporosis, anxiety and depression and heart disease are potential side effects of hormone replacement therapy. If you have a history of blood clots, liver disease or breast cancer, you should avoid hormone replacement therapy. If you minimize the other medications you take, limit your stress, exercise regularly, eat a healthy and well-balanced diet and visit your doctor regularly, you can greatly minimize many of the side effects of hormone replacement therapy.

There's No Place Like Home

The day that we have long been waiting for has finally come! After the Friday rush from work (which I so dread but expected), all the last minute packing, and saying goodbye to all the stress, we are now on vacation mode!

Waiting for boarding at the gate at Zürich Airport, Switzerland's largest airport.
In-flight meal from Singapore Airlines en-route to Singapore. Yum!
Transit in Singapore. We had to change from Terminal 3 to Terminal 1.
Arrived last Sunday with my sissies and bro picking us up from the airport and having a typical Filipino meal. It was also my Papa's birthday, which made our home coming even more special. Cousins, also the ones who I haven't seen for years, came to visit and celebrate with us. It is a great feeling to be back home again and tasting my Mama's home cooking meals again! And to see my nephews and nieces who have grown a lot since I last saw them.

All is well and good... and we are now exploring the different islands my home country has to offer. First on the list - Cebu and it's islands! But that folks is another story...

Small Business Start-up?

There’s no question that starting up a small business venture that is essentially an entrepreneurial enterprise can be both incredibly exciting and utterly daunting. Yes, it’s amazing to throw yourself into your passion and pursue it wholeheartedly. The daunting aspect, however, is the realization that you’ll have to take care of every important aspect of running the business on your own, at least at first.

Once a new small business gets up and running, the owner can start to get a sense of what’s working and what isn’t, and start making adjustments along the way. When things begin to run smoothly, it may be wise for the business owner to consider bringing in an assistant to take on some of the business duties, and then to look for other outside resources that can help lighten the workload.

Convenient HVAC Installation and Repair

Before It's Too Late

Considering the almost insane temperatures that have been occurring lately, you may be thinking about finally installing an HVAC unit. It's always better late than never. Not only will you experience actual cool temperatures in your home, but if you ever plan to sell your house, buyers tend to prefer homes with HVAC units already installed in them. Indeed, some reports have indicated that especially among the Millenial generation of homebuyers--those who will soon be the only ones in the market looking to buy a home--they have been selecting homes that come equipped with what is considered staple amenities. Among the chief of those is a working HVAC system. So, you can leave those kitchen and bathroom renovations to the side and instead pool your money towards installing a unit instead.

Those With A Plan

Thankfully, Chrismon Heating and Cooling have experts just waiting for your call. They are experts in installation and Greensboro furnace repair. The experts at Chrismon Heating and Cooling know what air conditioning units provide the best service without draining the power. They can also make sure that your house is receiving the most that it can, so your HVAC unit doesn't have to work all day and night. Trust in them to bring your house into modernity.

Where is Suki?

So the family is on the road for some much needed vacation. It has been months since our last family break and since it's the school break of our daughter, we might as well spend it in our home country. And because getting there in our Heimat requires long hours of flying, our Suki is not allowed to be with us on board.

Flying her through a special transport service for the four weeks that we will be away is out of the question. Aside from it being too expensive, something that this family cannot afford just yet, it would also be very risky considering her breed and all the health risks that go with it.

Spending the afternoon at the park while our girl is having her ballet classes.

So where is Suki now? She is in the good hands of Pino in his dog pension in Ludwigsburg. Suki enjoys it there I think. She loves to be in the company of other dogs too although she loves it best to be cuddled by us and being the center of our attention.

But for the 4 weeks that we will be away, she will be vacationing too! - with Pino at Pinos Hundehotel Paradiso in Ludwigsburg in the company of dogs with from different households whose owner friends are away on vacation too. We will be missing our four-legged friend, I mean we are missing her already. But we are assured that she in good hands, in the able hands and care of Pino.

How Important is Regularly Scheduled Maintenance for Your AC System?

During the summer months, temperatures can become extremely uncomfortable, if it were not for air conditioning. Often people tend to forget just how much they depend on their AC systems. Scheduling regular maintenance checkups is important to ensure that your air conditioning does not go out when you need it the most.

When to Schedule Service

Since most people have HVAC systems that heat and cool their home, it should be serviced in the fall before the weather becomes cold and again before summer. This will help to make certain there are not problems waiting to happen. The technician can make sure your filters are in good shape. This is something that you should do regularly anyway, but they can replace them if they are dirty.

What Do Service Technicians Check?

A technician can check the compressor and clean it, if necessary. He or she will make sure the ducts are open and working as they should. Ducts that are dirty make the perfect breeding ground for mold and bacteria. The technician can make sure your filters are in good shape. Another thing that will be inspected is the outside unit to make sure it is not blocked by plants, shrubs, or debris.

The service technician will also check the electrical components of your system. They will make sure refrigerant levels are correct so the air will be cool. Motors need lubrication, so this is another aspect that is part of the preventative maintenance performed by air conditioning technicians. Even with maintenance, air conditioning units can experience problems. This is why companies such as Penguin Air provide air conditioning repair in Naples FL.

Thermostats should also be part of the maintenance checkup. They can cease to work correctly, particularly if they are older. Digital thermostats are preferable and a technician can install one to help keep your home at the temperature you select.

If you have recently moved to your home or have not had to hire an air conditioning service technician in the past, do the research to find the right one. They should be licensed, insured, and bonded. Recommendations from family, friends, or co-workers can be helpful. You will want to make certain the company you choose is established and reliable.

Exciting Ways To Spend Your Next Vacation

A vacation is something that should create lifelong memories. For some families, going to the same spot each year is the ideal vacation. But some people want a different kind of excitement each year, and that means trying new activities and going to new places to make things interesting.

An Overland Adventure
Overland trips are excursions done far off the beaten path to destinations you have probably never seen before. These are the types of adventures where you will truly see something you have never seen before, but you should always have a professional guide with you to make everything safe. You can buy overland excursion packages from tour companies that will give you an adventure you will never forget.

A Safari
Perhaps the pinnacle of vacation adventures is to go into the lowlands of the African continent for a genuine safari. While a safari can be exciting, there is a bit of danger involved. But when you use the services of a professional safari tour company, you can rest easy knowing that you will be able to enjoy all of the adventure Africa has to offer.

Cave Tours
While many thousands of miles of caves in the United States remain unexplored, there are still plenty of exciting places people can go to safely explore caves. The rock formations and other features of caves make them the kind of place people go when they want an adventure. When you go to a cave tour, you will be outfitted with the gear you will need and you will be able to have the experience of a lifetime

The idea of vacationing in the same spot each year gives some people a much needed sense of security. But every once in a while, it is good to try something exciting and different. When you are planning your next vacation, be sure to think a little outside the box and look for something that will give you a whole new set of lifelong memories.

Summer Holiday Plans and Then Some

This family is over excited because summer is just around the corner! Last day of school for our daughter is Wednesday next week. Then we are off to our home country in August for that much needed vacation.

We have lots of travel plans when we get back home - we will mostly be travelling to different islands, visiting friends and family along the way. Our itinerary has been drafted and we have a rough schedule already. All flights have been booked and hopefully there won't be cancelled, delayed or rescheduled flights. There are only a few accommodations left that need to be booked.

But before that day comes, we would still need to work our butts off. Hehe!

I still need to make a packing list and buy little gifts for family back home. And I still need to pack our stuff. My Mum even asked me if I'm done packing already. How I wish! So it would be quite stressful and hectic around here in the next couple of weeks - the house needs to be clean so that we can come home to a clean house, our Suki needs to be ready and well adapted at the dog pension house before we leave, and the list goes on.... Hahaha! I know I am stressing out already. There are still a million things that need to be done before I can relax and have fun under the sun!

But yeah, it will hopefully be a fun and memorable family holiday. We need it and we deserve it. :)

It Is Important For Residents Of Washington, D.C. To Have A Clean Chimney

Having a chimney that is dirty or a chimney that needs to be repaired is a serious situation. This type of chimney can cause many problems for the walls in the home and the room, and, even worse, it can also start an unseen fire in the house. However, there are a few steps you can take to make sure your chimney is clean and correct at all times.

Have Your Chimney Looked At Twice A Year
Whether it is by a neighbor or a professional, it is important for you to have your chimney looked at approximately twice a year. This is especially true for people who utilize traditional fireplaces. Fireplaces get dirtier a lot quicker than people think, and this can quickly deteriorate the value of a home. Private contractors usually charge a small fee to examine a chimney, but this fee is definitely worth it.

Seek The World Wide Web
Companies that can clean your chimney can easily be found on the Internet. However, it is extremely important to contact a company that people in the local community recommend. A great example of this in the Washington, D.C. area is 301Chimney, which has won several different awards for being the best dc chimney sweep company. This company does nothing but clean and restore chimneys. All of their employees have received a quality education regarding chimneys, and they are always ready to take on any job.

Your chimney is one of the most important parts of your home because it keeps your home together. Many people look over their chimney or forget about it. However, you should pay attention to your chimney now before it causes you to pay attention to massive problems.

Finally A Kitchen!

I have always wanted to live in a house with a kitchen that I personally "designed" and decided on. By design, I mean the possibility to choose the design, color, layout, something that I can call a kitchen of my own. There is a sense of ownership when you are involved in planning the kitchen, from the measurements, to the layout, and the choosing the color and built-appliances.

The size of our present kitchen is fixed so I can't have a large kitchen or an island kitchen, but hey, who says everything should be perfect? What's important is that one is able to maximize and optimize what one presently has. :)

I wanted a kitchen that has lots of storage space and easy to clean. The one we got has lots of drawers and shelves a glossy finish so it is easier to wipe off dirt and grime. The cooking hob is also just big enough to cook 4 different pots or pans at a time. There's also a built-in oven for baking and / or roasting and microwave to heat up food pronto! There is also a dishwasher - helps me save a lot on water consumption and time! The built-in fridge unfortunately doesn't have a freezer so I can't stock on frozen goods [no ice cream! :(] and the one I have in our basement is not functioning. But anyway, as I said, one cannot have anything.

We got the kitchen at a very low price, so there's no complaining about the price since it came from Nolte Küchen, a very reputable kitchen company based here in Germany. But anyway, I am happy with the way it looks, with the functionality and how I am able to cook faster and more efficiently. That's what counts the most.

The Loss Of Family

When a loved one passes away, there are some difficult decisions that you have to make. One of them is what funeral home to use for the funeral service and the casket. Sometimes, family owned funeral homes Brookfield IL offers are a bit more pleasant to work with instead of larger businesses. The prices associated with a funeral are sometimes lower, and you will usually be able to talk to someone at all times while receiving exceptional customer care.

Many family funeral homes have several members of the same family working there. You will receive a compassionate touch to the services that are offered as well as the personal touches that some of the larger homes aren't able to provide because they are busier. Each person who works in a funeral home owned by a family tends to work to the greater good to deliver the best service possible and wants to try to offer services that are a bit more detailed. They will often take the time to explain the options that you have whether you decide on a traditional burial or cremation. They can also talk to you about the options that you have available with the service. Many funeral homes are willing to let you borrow a casket for a memorial service if your loved one is cremated as well as flowers and other items that will give the feeling of a funeral.

Family members who work in a funeral home often spend time away from the business as well. This means that they talk to each other and are better adapted to communicating with those who are dealing with the death of a loved one. If you are seeking the assistance of a funeral home, then consider everything that one has to offer instead of only the basics as you want to develop a relationship for years to come.

Graduation Party for my Daughter's Class

Summer break is fast approaching here in Germany. My daughter is also about to end her grade school days and will move on to another school where she will start a new and more challenging journey. As a fourth grade parent, it means that it is time to prepare for the graduation party. From where I came from, there's always the conventional recognition and graduation ceremonies at school where the children go on stage and are presented with medals and ribbons as recognition for all their efforts. Here, it is quite different. There are no ceremonies in school, only graduation parties with the class and the teachers.

As planned with the other parents, we will be celebrating it at a sports grounds near the school and will organize a small tournament for the kids. Because it will be beautiful outside, it will be grill party. Everyone will bring something to grill and drink. We will also prepare something for their homeroom teacher and assistant teacher, which the class speaker will present. A photobooth will also be made available so that everyone can have their photos taken, whether solo or with their group of friends. Instead of printing it on site, we will be sharing the digital files to all class members so they have the option to choose and print the ones they like.

There will also be a blank framed canvas with a tree trunk where each class member will print his / her thumbmark on the branches as leaves. After everyone has printed their thumbmarks, this will be given to the homeroom teacher too as a gift.

I am excited for Friday. We hope that the teachers will feel how thankful we are for their patience in teaching our children. Will post how it went in my upcoming posts.

What are some other good graduation party ideas for grade school children do you have? Be sure to share them in the comments! Thanks!

Light Up Your World

Whether it's simple candles or hanging lights, there are numerous ideas to consider for illuminating your yard on a budget. Contact an outdoor lighting Kansas City company to find out what you can or should use when installing the lights so that they aren't damaged and so that the cords and accessories are hidden from view. If you have a birdbath or another type of water source in your yard, then use floating candles to illuminate the water with a gentle glow. You can also put votives in glass holders so that they don't tip over or get wet if you want more of a permanent solution.

Another idea for outdoor lighting is to create a wreath of lights in different colors or in various shades of white. You can use a frosted spray to cover some of the bulbs that you use as well as spray paint if you can't find colored bulbs. This lighting design is one that you can use throughout the year. Use colors associated with holidays and seasons to deliver a bit of charm to the front door of your home or one of your windows. If you have an outdoor area for entertaining with a table and chairs, then make a chandelier with branches and a few bulbs. Another option is to string lights along the edges of a patio room for a delicate appearance while you're eating outside or while you're spending time enjoying the sights and sounds of nature.

Display a word made of lights that reveals a hobby you like, the family name, or another word that describes your family. An idea to consider would be positioning the lights near a pool so that the word reflects in the water. You can also take this design and create images on an exterior wall of your home or on your front porch.

How To Light The Yard

If you're looking for a way to add beauty to the exterior of your home or if you want better security, then consider outdoor lighting. There are numerous options available, such as floodlights at the corners of your home or lights that are positioned to illuminate trees and bushes. However, there are a few common mistakes that can be made that you can avoid by working with a landscape lighting Overland Park company.

One of the mistakes that you might not even think that you're making is not adding lighting to your landscape in the first place. After spending a lot of time and money getting your landscaping just right, it's often best to install some kind of lighting so that you can accent the hard work that you've done at all times. Sometimes, not using outdoor lighting can decrease the value of your home, especially if you live in a neighborhood where other homes have this type of lighting and you don't.

When you install outdoor lighting, the focus needs to be on the thing that you're illuminating instead of on the fixture. You don't want people to pay too much attention to a light that is beside a tree when they are supposed to be looking at the tree itself. However, if you use artistic light sources, such as butterfly lights or mirror balls, then you might want people to pay attention to the light source as well as the focal point. Avoid putting too many lights in one area of the yard. There will be too much emphasis on one detail, and you can sometimes make the rest of the yard seem too dark. Scatter smaller lights at various points, such as in front of a flower bed or in front of a small bush that you want to highlight.

Ways to Protect Yourself from Mosquitoes

When most people think about dangerous animals, animals like alligators, lions, or bears come to mind. And it is true that these animals can hurt humans. However, one of the most dangerous animals on the planet is the mosquito. It is very small, but the diseases it can deliver are deadly. Mankind has been battling with yellow fever, dengue, and malaria for many years. Newer diseases, like Zika, are also delivering some serious blows. Here are ways that you can protect yourself against mosquitoes.

You want to create an environment in your home where mosquitoes will not be able to access your family and where they will not be able to breed. First, check your yard and other places around your home where water collects. Dump out buckets, old tires, and other receptacles that may be collecting water after it rains. Next, take steps to stop mosquitoes from entering your home. If it is possible, put screens on your windows and doors. Or you may use screen enclosures in Jacksonville to just make certain areas mosquito free. Using a mosquito net over the bed at night will protect you while you were sleeping.

You want to wear protective clothing to prevent bites. Mosquitoes like dark colors, so it is better to wear light-colored clothing when you know mosquitoes are going to be the most active. Wearing light color pants and long sleeve shirts is helpful. Socks are are also beneficial to protect your ankles and the top of your feet.

There are a variety of different repellents you can use in order to protect yourself from mosquito bites. Some of these use harsh chemicals, while others use natural ingredients. Take time to research the options that are available to find out which ones really work against mosquitoes and which ones will not have potential health risks.

Getting medical treatment as soon as possible after contracting a mosquito borne illness is extremely important. However, when it comes to mosquito bites, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. If you can protect your family from mosquito bites, you can avoid a lot of uncomfortable symptoms and even long-term health problems.

3 Benefits of Yacht Ownership

If you are the type of person that loves the feel of the open water, you have probably spent more than your share of time on a boat or yacht. Having everything you need right at the tip of your hands is certainly advantageous, as is being able to navigate the seas and enjoy a day or night out on the water. In fact, you might even want to set sail for a few days, not even touching land until you are good and ready. For these reasons and more, you should consider the following three benefits associated with yacht ownership.

Never Make a Reservation Again
Little can be more frustrating than finding time to go on a yacht trip, only to discover that no boats are available for the days that you have free. Making a reservation is a cumbersome and often difficult process. However, this headache is eliminated when you own your yacht. Just take a look at some of the Sabre yachts for sale and you will quickly realize that this is a path you definitely want to pursue.

Enjoy the Personal Touches
When you rent a boat, it just will not seem like home no matter how many personal amenities come with it. When you have your own yacht, you will be able to add the personal touches that make you feel comfortable. From artwork to your own bed, everything will be extra comfortable each and every time you set sail.

Customize Your Ship
Renting a boat may have some advantages, but you will rarely get a yacht that has all of the features you personally desire. Owning your own yacht takes care of this problem. Customize it the way you want and you sure to be much happier in the end.

These three benefits alone illustrate some of the many reasons why yacht ownership is coveted. If you love getting out on a boat, you will want to consider owning a boat in order to have it accessible wheneever you want. It is a complete addition to your lifestyle that you are sure to enjoy for years to come.

Customizing the Look for Your Kitchen

When you remodel your kitchen, you may not want to use fixtures that are mass produced and sold at big box stores and home improvement retailers. You may end up with a kitchen that looks like everyone else's if you choose this option.

Instead, when you want a totally unique kitchen that is unlike any other found in the neighborhood, you might want to custom order important fixtures like the cabinets and counters.  You can find out what your options are for custom ordered cabinetry, flooring, and granite countertops in Bradenton FL by going online today.

Checking Out Your Color Options
Materials like granite are typically available in an assortment of colors.  You can find it in slate gray, glossy black, and pearl white.  You can also find it in patterns that include flecks of different colors that add to its beauty and dimension.

You may not even realize how many options you have for this material until you visit the company's website.  When you want to get a better idea of what colors you can choose, you can click on the client gallery link at the top of the page.  It will take you to photos that show you what the materials look like, in what colors they are available, and what the finished result may appear like in your own kitchen.

By looking at the pictures, you can select a look for your house that you can take pride in and be happy with now and in the years to come.  You may decide that the material is a worthwhile investment that will give you a good return on your money.

If you are not someone who trusts your own gut instinct, you could be convinced that you made a good decision by reading the testimonials of clients who have used the service.  You can read about how happy they were with the work done in their homes.  Their reviews may convince you that you are making a good choice by customizing your cabinets and cupboards rather than buying mass produced items.

How To Make The Most Of Your New York Vacation

New York is one of the most exciting cities on planet earth. When you go on a New York City vacation, it seems like there isn't enough time to explore everything that this bustling metropolis has to offer. While you might not be able to take in all of Manhattan on a single vacation, you can definitely make the most out of your vacation to the city that never sleeps. Here's how to do it.

Pack Wisely
Too many people worry about how they look instead of how they'll feel when they visit New York. While it's understandable that you want to look stylish in the most fashionable city on the planet, remember that New York vacations involve a lot of walking. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes.

Take In The Entertainment
New York is arguably the best place in the world to experience live theater. From NY cabaret to Broadway shows, there's no better place to take in a breathtaking live performance. Start shopping for deals on tickets before you arrive in New York in order to ensure that you can see some great shows for reasonable prices.

Watch Out For Your Safety
While New York city is a lot safer than it was a few decades ago, any large city still poses some safety concerns. Watch out for anyone who seems too eager to talk to you, as they might be out to scam tourists. You should also always keep your belongings close to you, as petty theft is unfortunately common. However, don't believe anyone who tells you that New York is extremely dangerous. While you should definitely be alert and practice personal safety, New York is actually a lot safer than many similar-sized cities.

A New York City vacation is a great way to broaden your personal horizons and experience a place that so many people dream of visiting for yourself. Seeing New York in person is an experience unlike any other and everyone should visit the city at least once in their lifetime.

Suki's Visit at the Vet

Yesterday we had to skip my daughter's ballett class to bring our Suki to the vet for a follow up check up. She was always scratching her ears and shaking her head some 3 weeks ago that she can't sleep very well (and of course, the human mommy too). And because our Suki is such a sweet dog, she has no qualms going to the clinic.

Suki with my daughter at the examination room while waiting for the vet.

She would patiently wait in the waiting room, sniffing and greeting the other patients, and would not hesitate to get inside the examination room when it was our turn (no pushing and begging her to come) and would always greet the vet with joy and delight, happy face and all (no wagging tails though as she almost doesn't have one 😊).

What she dislikes though is having her ears checked. It was difficult the last time we went there, with frenchies having herculean strength when needed. But we didn't want to force her or endanger the vet nurse by being accidentally bitten. So we tried another trick this time, getting her calmed down first and giving her carrot treats while the vet examines her ears. Thank goodness it worked. And thankfully, the ear infection is gone.

That was such a relief, for all of us, for Suki most especially. And that is why it is always important to regularly dog's ears to keep the earwax in check, because as the adage says, "too much of something is not good."
