TCP#22: So Close

Welcome to the January 19th edition of Tuesday Couch Potatoes where we post about a movie each week. This week, we will feature Girl Power movies, where we feature movies that advocate women's rights and play the main heroes. It could be any genre as long as it is all about women. This will serve as our small tribute to all the women artists out there.

But before I proceed with my pick for this week, allow me to look back with what we had last week. We started off TCP for 2010 Blockbuster Movies and the top pick and definitely the favorite among Couchers is none other than AVATAR. Find out why Grace, Jo.Frougal, Lulu and Rossel loved the movie very much by clicking here, here, here and here.

And now for my pick this week: So Close. This is not your usual western Girl Power movie because it stars Asian actresses Shu Qi, Zhao Wei, and Karen Mok. It was filmed in various locations in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Thailand and was released in 2002 by Columbia Pictures. It's action packed, just like the Charlie's Angels movie, and the characters are so unpredictable that you almost wouldn't guess what's gonna happen next.

The movie is about the story of two sisters turned assassins. They are skilled in kung fu, espionage and computer hacking using the invention of their father called the World Panorama. Shu Qi is Lynnn who possesses amazing high tech and kung fu skills to carry out their plots. Zhao Wei is Sue who assists her sister in the remote comfort of their home through the World Panorama surveillance system to help them carry out a clean mission. Karen Mok is Hong, the cop with a brilliant who knows that she is dealing with a killer with very special skills. They had to join forces to avenge the death of Sue and to prove Hong's innocence.

While most of the scenes were highly action-packed and violent, there are those SOFT scenes that made it all the more endearing like the scene at the music shop with the OST Close To You by the Carpenters playing in the background, the scenes when Lynn realizes she is in love with Yan, the video cam scene where Sue was trying to catch her sister naked on video, and the flashback scene that showed how it all began. I really love this kick-ass movie.

Here's a movie preview:
