TCP#19: Mama Mia!

Welcome to the December 15th edition of Tuesday Couch Potatoes where we post about a movie each week. This week, we will feature Musical Movies. Music is always present in every film. It sets the mood, it highlights the scenes, it could even make you fall in love. But there are exceptional movies where we find the lines being sung, where the actors find themselves dancing and singing their hearts out. If you know of a great Musical Movie, then come share it with us this week.

But before I move on to my movie feature, let us go back to what one of Couchers posted last week for the theme Great Outdoor Adventure Movie. Nuts of Embrace Life featured The Beach. Find out why Nuts found it one of the best movies she has ever seen here.

And now for my pick for this week's theme: None other than the 2008 Meryl Streep starrer Mama Mia! I really enjoyed this movie for a lot of reasons. The songs used in the movie were from one of my favorite 70's group, ABBA. The movie was shot in Greece, one of my dream travel destinations. Meryl Streep was just so great here, it shows how flexible an artist she is. I was just surprised to see Pierce Brosnan, the famous Bond icon, singing ABBA too! Indeed, it was a very fun movie that is worth watching again.

What the movie is all about? It is all about Donna Sheridan, a single mother and her daughter, bride-to-be Sophie Sheridan. Sophie dreams of having her father walk her down the aisle on her wedding day so that when she discovers her mother's diary and founds out that one of the three men mentioned could possibly be her father, she invites them to come to the island. As the events unfold, you would laugh, you would cry, you would feel bittersweet, you would sing along, and you would be surprised. Hubby was skeptical at first whether he should watch along owing to the fact that it is a musical movie. He was surprised to find that he likes it too!

If you haven't seen it yet, here's a preview:

Gosh, at kumanta pa si Pierce Brosnan! A singing Bond? I'm impressed :-) It's so true that movies does the job of advertising a place so excellently. I loved Mama Mia. How did they ever arrange ABBA music to be sung at those keys? The path to the church was awesome. I saw Meryl Streep's versatility clearly from The Devil Wears Prada to Mama Mia.
