Mommy Moments: Anticipating and Goal-Setting

Mommy Moments has been running for a year now and although I am unable to post religiously, I am glad that this meme has grown into more than just a meme. I have learned a lot from other mommies and came to befriend some of them. Indeed, this has grown into a community and I am happy to be a part of it.

Since the year 2010 has just begun, allow me to share some of the goals that I have set for myself and the things that I look forward to as a Mom, as a wife, as an individual. I do hope that I will be able to achieve them before the year ends. So help me God!

1. Samantha will turn 2 in less than two months. How to celebrate it? I am not yet sure but I will definitely ask her guests to bring pens and pencils for our small project called Pens of Hope in Davao.

2. Stop procrastinating and finish Samantha's Baby Photo Book. I have tons of photos accumulated in less than two years already and I should have them printed in a photo book, something that will tell her life story. I am planning to have three copies made for the lolos and lolas and for us.

3. Lose weight, feel good, and look fabulous again. :D Seriously, I need to lose weight since I have gained a lot since last year. I must admit that the way I look now is far too different from the way I look before and it has somehow affected my self-esteem. And if I want to have another baby, I should shed the fat or else risk a difficult pregnancy.

4. Spend my blogging money on worthy projects. :D

5. Plan on another holiday for the family. As you all know I love to travel and exploring a new place with the family makes me happiest.

6. Enroll in Graduate School. But first I need to find a scholarship to support my expenses. I don't want my schooling to be a financial burden. I also need to find a Kindergarten for Sam.

7. Hopeful for more participants for my meme: Tuesday Couch Potatoes. For that to happen, I know I should also be a good host and post the MckLinky ahead of time RELIGIOUSLY.

8. Spend more time with Sam and Hubby and engage in more family-oriented activities.

I guess that's about it for now. I have lots more things in mind but I know that if I go on, I will only end up confused as to where to start.

How about you Mommy? What's your New Year's List? Come share it with us!

Kikamz, Where Have You Been?

Perhaps many of you are wondering where I have been. I missed Sati's baptism last December 27th because I was away. I failed to greet everyone a Happy New Year when the clock struck twelve on New Year's Eve. But rest assured that I said a prayer for all of you my dear blogging friends.

View of the Big Ben and the London Eye on New Year's Eve.
We weren't actually there. I just took a photo from the TV! Hehe! :D

So where have I been the past few weeks? I have been to London to visit the queen, er the queen's subjects a.k.a my brother in law's family. We celebrated Christmas and New Year with them and I can say that we had a really wonderful time. They live on the southern side of England, in a beautiful city called Bournemouth which is famous for its Beach. And although they don't get much snow like the rest of England does, it was still very cold because it was very humid.

All wrapped up while frolicking in the sand:
Samantha enjoying the beach for the first time.

Samantha got to know her Tito and Tita and she got to play with her three-year-old cousin. It also meant time away from all the house chores for me (except for laundry and cleaning sam's bottles) and time for hubby to relax. He was in front of the TV most of the time and watched Discovery, NatGeo and everything the he fancies watching on Sky. Pano, walang English channels dito sa bahay.

Samantha and her Kuya Luis on New Year's Eve.

We did visit London for three days and because of the weather condition and a small child in tow, we didn't get to see everything! We missed exploring the British National Museum, St. Paul's Cathedral, Tower of London and Westminster Abbey and skipped shopping at Harrod's and Oxford Street but we did get to see many sights. I, of course, will update you about them in the days to come.

I was going to post photos of Sam and her cousin but the CD was corrupted. Too bad! I should ask Kuya to burn another copy and send it to us. Pronto!

Why Tuna Is Good For You (Especially When You're Pregnant)

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of HealthyTuna.com. All opinions are 100% mine.

I have always loved seafood. I would eat any seafood served before me: mussels, shrimps, crabs, salmon, tuna and any other kind of fish. They are always healthy and contains all the healthy goodness minus the fat and bad cholesterol. One of my favorite recipes is grilled fish or tuna. It is very simple to prepare. Just rub some salt and lemon and then cook over hot charcoal and it's ready in a few minutes. Serve it with sliced tomatoes and lemon-and-soy sauce dip and you are in for a very hearty and healthy meal.

Grilled fish.

My love for seafood doesn't end there. A recent scientific study had reinforced my love for seafood especially tuna. Did you know that eating seafood could help decrease the risk of depression especially in pregnant women? The study showed that pregnant women who ate seafood at least three times a week are less likely to develop the symptoms of depression while those who skipped them have a 50% chance of developing them. And when a pregnant woman is depressed, it could increase the risk of a C-section, delivering a pre-mature or low-birth-weight baby, slow babies' brain development and postnatal depression.

So if you are pregnant or planning to have another baby, include healthy tuna and other marine foods in your diet. They are a rich source of DHA, a special omega-3 fatty acid, that helps in the proper brain and eye development in babies. They are an excellent source of lean protein, vitamin D and calcium, which are beneficial to both you and your baby.

If you are thinking that tuna is expensive, then think canned tuna. It is cheap and very convenient and easy to prepare yet it contains all the goodness of its fresh counterpart. As for me, I see to it that I have canned tuna stocked in my cupboard. And when I'm not in the mood to prepare lunch, I open up a can, add some lemon and serve it for myself.

Happy 2010 To All!

After two weeks of not being able to update this blog, I am finally back! My apologies for not updating. It was just impossible to sit down and update my blog with so much going on at the same time. I am glad to share that I had a great vacation spent with family and new-found friends. Samantha finally met her cousin who is a year older than her. I was so happy to see them play together. Of course, we had to keep watch because her kuya loves to tease her and they would fight over any single item the other one is holding. I guess all kids are like that. Especially when they are so used to playing all by themselves.

The weather in central London was terrible during our three-day visit though. It was raining and very humid and chilly on our second and third day. We didn't get to see all of the sights and opted to stay inside galleries and museums than get soaked in the rain and get chilled. We did manage to witness the changing of the guards and rode the London Eye during our first day. I will post photos of our escapades and our Christmas and New Year celebration in the coming days.

As for Tuesday Couch Potatoes, we will resume next week, January 12th with the theme: Blockbuster Movies. I know I have not been a good host in the past two TCPs and even missed posting the MckLinky. But please bear with me. I have cooked up a small surprise to all of my dear Couchers so please watch out for it.

And if you did manage to post a TCP last week, December 29th for the theme: New Beginnings, here is the ever-late MckLinky:

Thanks for visiting and here's wishing everyone a Blessed and Peaceful 2010!
