TCP#90: He's Just Not That Into You

Hello Couchers! Welcome to the 90th edition of Tuesday Couch Potatoes. In 10 Tuesdays, we will be on our 100th edition and how would you like us to celebrate the 100 posts? Would you like a giveaway? Anyway, our theme for today is "It's Complicated". I have always enjoyed watching films with this theme because it allows us to see the many facets of human relationships and how one deals with them. While they are oftentimes fictitious, you see some reality in it as they are after all, made and written based on human experience and emotions.

So my movie pick will be "He's Just Not That Into You", a 2009 romantic comedy film that is based on a self-help book of the same title. It is about nine people who had to deal with their romantic problems, with Gigi as the main character who oftentimes misinterprets the behavior of her romantic partners. She came to believe that she is "the rule", as Alex puts it, who in the end became "the exception" for the one person (Alex) who unconsciously fell in love with her.

Gigi imagines every man she meets is Mr. Right; she gets reality checks from Alex, a sweet but cynical saloon keeper. Neil and Beth have been together seven years; she dumps him when she realizes he really and truly isn't going to marry her. Does he love her? Of course, when I watched this movie, I didn't know what it was about and I was even surprised to find the ensemble of cast: Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, Scarlett Johansson, Sasha Alexander, Justin Long, Jennifer Connelly, Ginnifer Goodwin, Kevin Connolly, and Bradley Cooper. It is a fun and nice movie to watch. The many complications of love and relationships, and many relationship questions are integrated into this film. I bet you all will love this too!

TCP#76: Meet The Fockers

Hello Couchers! Can you feel the love? It is the 1st of February and I know that you are all feeling the love and are excited to post your LOVE MOVIES for this month. But before we get all mushy and stuff, just an important announcement. So now let's get down to business. For this Tuesday, our theme is Storge / Familial Love: Because We Are A Family. I do enjoy watching these kind of movie for all the good reasons: there is moral value in the theme, the scenes are wholesome, they always make you happy in the end, there are good lessons to be learned, and although some plots are far from realistic, you still are able to relate with one character or another. What's my pick this week? That will have to be Meet The Fockers. This is one of my favorite family movies because it simply is hilarious, sweet and well, I can just relate with most of the characters.

You know how it is when parents meet for the first time. There will always be first impressions and all that. In the movie, there were trust issues and reservations about one another and as the story unfolded and the conflicts became bigger and funnier because it felt like I am seeing some real life scenes in the film, you just can't help but be impressed at how they managed to stay in tact in the end. And I guess no matter the differences, you will always end up accepting and letting go of your defenses to be able to really embrace and welcome someone into your life. That is the miracle of love. After all, a FAMILY is all you've got at the end of the day.

TCP#41: As Good As It Gets

Hello Couchers! Welcome to the June 1st edition of Tuesday Couch Potatoes where we post about a movie each week. Today is the 1st day of June and the first TCP for the month. June ushers in a new school year in the Philippines and in some parts of the planet and so I have decided to make this week's theme: It Begins with "A". You may feature any genre as long as the movie's title starts with the first letter of the alphabet.

Now, allow me to start the ball rolling as I am already late in posting this meme. I should take advantage of the scheduled posts in the future if I want to get this thing going for a long period of time.

My pick for this week is As Good As It Gets, a romantic comedy starring Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt. I enjoyed watching this film as I can relate to Melvin's character who is an extreme OC. Mine though is only the mild case since it is only my Hubby who I drive crazy because of my OC-ness. Anyway, the movie is about a restaurant server, a work-at-home romance novelist and a dog named Verdell. Helen Hunt plays Carol, the only waitress at the restaurant where Melvin eats breakfast everyday, who can tolerate his behavior. She also has an asthmatic son whom she needs to take care of and so she has decided to move closer to Brooklyn. Melvin then offered to pay her son's medical expenses, albeit for own selfish interests. Theirs is a complicated relationship but still ended happily for they realized in the end the depth of their personal connection.

If you needed a feel good movie, this one is it.
